"Child hunger causes physical and mental impairment that may never be reversed… There is no better investment in a prosperous future than investing in ending childhood hunger."

The FEED USA campaign will kick off in February 2010 as the FEED Foundation (and partner FEED Projects) begins to focus on domestic food issues like hunger and access to healthier food, especially in schools. Our first initiative is to help produce The Hungry in America Project, a documentary film and multimedia campaign to raise awareness of hunger in America and its solutions.

About the Documentary

Hungry in America is a feature-length documentary by award-winning filmmakers Lori Silverbush (wife of Tom Colicchio) and Kristi Jacobson, that shines a light on the history and causes of this country's hunger crisis as well as the surprisingly diverse faces of those who go hungry and the tireless efforts of those fighting to end it. The film asks why a nation that could provide access to inexpensive and healthful food for all has failed to do so. Scheduled release: November 2010.

About the Campaign

Hungry in America is the cornerstone of a multi-platform social impact campaign to end hunger in the U.S. President Obama has pledged to end childhood hunger by 2015. As evidenced by the healthcare debate, a national consensus is crucial in bringing about change. Hungry In America will reveal the depth and breadth of hunger in the U.S. as the center of an initiative intended to galvanize and empower audiences to take action that could lead to the eradication of domestic hunger in the next decade.

Strategic Partners

Critically important to this campaign are partnerships with leading governmental agencies and grassroots organizations working to combat hunger in America. THE HUNGRY IN AMERICA PROJECT has forged key partnerships in several arenas to support its critical campaign goals.

The Alliance to End Hunger, an innovative partnership that has more than 75 members -- corporations, non-profit groups, universities, individuals, and Christian, Jewish and Muslim religious bodies working to end hunger worldwide. The Alliance fosters strategic partnerships to overcome hunger in our country and around the world; builds political will by working collectively to engage political leaders on hunger issues and elevate hunger on the national agenda; and creates global connections with the UN International Alliance Against Hunger, where it joins similar efforts underway in 49 countries to cut in half the number of hungry people by 2015.

Bread for the World, a Christian-led organization that marshals public activism against hunger at home and abroad. Working through churches, campuses and other organizations, they mobilize people to write personal letters and emails and to meet with Congressional representatives. In 2005, Bread for the World’s efforts helped stop Congress from pushing hundreds of thousands of hardworking people and their children off the Food Stamp Program.

The Food Research and Action Center (FRAC), the leading national non-profit institute working to improve public policies and public-private partnerships to eradicate hunger and “undernutrition” in the United States. FRAC works with hundreds of national, state and local nonprofit organizations, public agencies and corporations to address both hunger and poverty. To achieve its goals of ending hunger and expanding access to the federal nutrition programs, FRAC pursues a comprehensive national, state and local strategy.
